• Consider how you talk about beauty in your household.  Do you typically admire only European features?  Then your daughter needs to hear praise regarding the appearance of other types of beauty.

• Keep a world map or globe in your home and show your child from where her ancestors may have come.

• Above all, don’t try too hard. Recognize your limitations. You cannot become black, but inviting people into your lives from many diverse backgrounds will enrich your life and your child’s future with love, beauty, and acceptance.
